THE FIELDS

The Fields (2020) is a private commission for the Midtown Parking Garage in Montclair, New Jersey, realized as three large-scale glass billboard murals visible from the main street of the city. The images draw from the landscape and life of Montclair itself — its streets, its flora, its particular light — woven together into a field of color and presence that greets the city from the garage facade. Montclair, a township in Essex County built on commuter rail and a long tradition of arts patronage, provided both the subject and the context: a community that has always understood the role of image in public life. Three panels, each 216 inches wide by 72 inches high, compose a single continuous visual field across the structure's face.
